Two thumbs down: Renteria's bad acting job panned by ump

When it comes to acting chops, Edgar Renteria(notes) is definitely not a Derek "De Niro" Jeter.

He's not on the level of noted thespian Chase Utley, either.

While both of his infield contemporaries acted their way aboard in high-profile spots earlier this year, the San Francisco Giants shortstop displayed inferior skills during Saturday night's NLCS Game 6 and ended up looking foolish while doing it.

Renteria immediately started hooting and hollering after fouling off a Roy Oswalt(notes) pitch on a checked swing in the sixth inning. He was hoping to sell the home plate umpire on it hitting his hands — which were actually nowhere close  — but Tom Hallion was having none of it. To his credit, he immediately ruled the pitch a foul ball and a sheepish Renteria was forced to slink back into the box while Oswalt smirked at Renteria's "Razzie" from the mound.

You really couldn't fault Renteria's ambitions. The Giants had runners on first and second at the time and a HBP would've loaded the bases (though with the pitcher's spot coming up).

But Renteria's performance fell flat and he ended up grounding into a double play to end the inning. A batter's box bomb if we've ever seen one.

Zero stars.
